In such scenes, people assume the roles of dominant and submissive. A dominant is someone who would do the spanking, and the submissive is someone who would take it. Both players in a scene carry their own influence over the other with no one side being in complete control of a scene, although the two may punish each other over it.
For example, a common dynamic between two partners in a scene is that of master and slave. While the master has control over what the slave wants, the slave also has influence over the master, because the slave is a willing participant in the master’s grand scheme.
