Teenage Sex: Educational Performance
See more » Research
Bill McCarthy and Eric Grodsky present meta-research at the American Sociological Association meeting on sex among teenagers.
Sexually active teens perform as well as the abstinent ones.
That is, at least, the young males and females in “serious relationships.”
The same isn’t true for teens who “hook up.” Researchers found that those who have casual flings get lower grades and have more school-related problems compared with those who abstain.
Teen sex doesn’t cause bad grades, but beware ‘hook ups’
This doesn’t mean casual sex causes poor grades. Perhaps students who take school casually are casual about everything including sex. This might be a consequence of their socioeconomic background, their home life. Their parents attitudes.
