When Mick Hudnall invited Petrina Montrose to meet the British PM she didn’t know what to expect:
“When Mick invited me to Chequers I imagined an exotic and lavish occasion and had dressed accordingly. I had stiletto, open-toed, silver sandals on and I looked very glamorous. But I was dressed more for a night at the Oscars.
“Everyone else looked very low-key and casual. I could feel people looking at what I was wearing and trying to measure me up. I suddenly found myself feeling like the high-class society girl I used to be. It was a life I had left behind since I had met Mick Hucknall.
Everyone was terribly sweet but I felt overwhelmed by the history of the house and how at ease everybody else seemed at being there. “And I felt increasingly paranoid that somehow someone would guess that I didn’t really belong in this world.”
