The American tendency to want to control - suppress - sexual self-expression in general and sex workers specifically is back in the news. Professional do-gooders are seeking to exploit the recent murder of a sex worker as an excuse to impose limits on Craigslist. The classified advertising site is reportedly the most popular venue for sex workers and their clients in America.
Some are skeptical about the efforts to combat the world’s oldest profession on the Web. Trying to curb the ads on Craigslist may just drive them to another site that is less cooperative with authorities, said Steve Jones, a professor of communication at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
