Comments on Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick’s “MySpace bill” (Deleting Online Predators Act).

Ted Davis, director of the information technology department at Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia, said the bill would “not protect students and it will place an added burden on schools.” …

“We would be turning off, effectively, the entire Internet with this,” Aftab said. …

“The intention is great, but it’s not the way we’re going to solve it,” said Congresswoman Anna Eshoo, D-Calif.

“We do have prank calls, but we haven’t outlawed the phone system,” said Congressman Jay Inslee, DWash.

The congressman, knowing how uncomprehending and squeamish the average American is - and how fearful legislators are of the slightest appearance of supporting child molesters probably correctly says:

Despite the opposition, Fitzpatrick said the bill would likely pass the House easily. “Who’s against protecting our kids?” he asked.
