Christopher Wilson: Politics or Porn?
» Internet
Christopher Wilson operated a website that hosted photos that men sent of their wives and girlfriends.
American solidiers in Iraq and Afghanistan complained that they were unable to use their credit cards to access his site. Wilson offered free access in exchange for photographs of graphic photos of the wounded and dead.
Wilson was arrested byPolk County Sheriff Grady Judd for distributing obscene materials. This was in the wake of his site recieving a fair amount of publicity from national media.
On his Web site, Wilson posted a message about his “explicit images of war,” noting that “whitewashing of the truth is at odds with the First Amendment freedoms this country enjoys.”
His lawyer, Larry Walters, says:
“There’s a reasonable suspicion it’s political,” Walters said of his client’s arrest. “The site existed for a long time. Shortly after he’s been catapulted into the limelight, he’s in jail.”
