Who’d expect that art instruction could be so complicated in a city like Long Beach.
The Planning Commission today will consider whether to recommend amending zoning laws to allow live nude modeling for art classes at Koo’s Art Center at 540 E. Broadway in the East Village Art District .
When Koo’s managers wanted to offer life-drawing workshops, they were told by the city that they must apply for an adult-entertainment permit a prohibitive step because such establishments must be at least 300 feet from any district that allows residential uses. Koo’s is on the ground floor of the Lafayette condominiums.
