Perfect 10 Takes on MSN This Time
» Adult
You may remember Perfect 10 as the adult entertainment company that lost a a lawsuit against Google (the suit against Amazon I hadn’t heard of before).
In linking to Perfect 10’s thumbnail photographs of women MSN also leads searchers to full-sized images, which searchers can see for free. I have nothing against intellectual property rights but that does seem like a flaw that Perfect 10’s back office needs to mend.
I suspect adult entertainment companies may be not be likely to get a fair hearing in the US right now. It would be interesting to see if a similar lawsuit from a more mainstream and much richer enterprise were successful. Or if the search engines would comply with requests to block the content.
The suit also says Microsoft’s MSN search engine can find passwords that have been improperly posted on other websites and enable access to Perfect 10’s website. Microsoft also takes advertising money from websites that have stolen Perfect 10 images, according to the lawsuit.
Exposed passwords are a very serious issue that their engineers should retify. Perhaps money should be spent on more able web technologists and fewer lawyers.
